The Littlefield Police Department Explorer Program, in conjunction with the Littlefield EMS Explorer Program is designed to promote a mutual understanding and working relationship between youth, Emergency Medical Services, and the Law Enforcement community. Agencies that sponsor Explorer programs are dedicated to the education and involvement of youth in their own community's program. These agencies are therefore able to provide young men and women firsthand knowledge of the profession by working with and learning from professional law enforcement officers, EMS, and support personnel.
Your participation in the Explorer program will provide you with an understanding of the profession and the rewards associated with a potential career in law enforcement or EMS. You will be exposed to challenging training sessions, community awareness programs, and a host of other issues designed to broaden your knowledge of law enforcement operations and EMS operations designed to enhance the quality of life in Littlefield. We are looking for young men and women of strong moral character who have the desire and wherewithal to do things for themselves and others, and who will learn and accept the virtues of patriotism, courage, self-reliance, and kindred values. In achieving this purpose, our Explorer program will place emphasis upon education, oaths, promises, and codes for character development, citizenship training, and mental and physical fitness.
Law Enforcement Explorer programs are sponsored by many law enforcement agencies throughout the United States. Exploring is a program of the more than four million members of the Boy Scouts of America. Nationwide there are over 39,000 young people involved in over 1,900 Explorer programs.
What do Explorers Do?
An Explorer Participates in community service events, assists in special programs, provides crowd control and traffic control. These include parades, bike safety programs, children's ID clinics, and other areas and events designated by the Chief of Police or EMS Director. They participate in anti-drug and crime prevention programs for younger children at elementary schools and other public gatherings. They act as positive role models for other youth in our community - both young and old.
Career police officers, EMS, and support personnel train Explorers in law enforcement and emergency medical subjects. Explorers are provided with training opportunities, seminars, and special training camps to learn and demonstrate acquired skills. They also learn and work with other explorer posts in the region. Each Explorer learns firsthand about law enforcement and EMS in terms of duties, standards and professionalism.
Explorers in the Littlefield Police Department and Littlefield EMS have the opportunity to participate in the departments "Ride Along Program". This enables the Explorer to ride with Police Officers and EMS personnel while they are on duty, thereby gaining special insight to the actual experiences of our law enforcement officers and EMTs.
